Private collections

In the course of its history, the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum has been given numerous collections and archives from associations, federations, companies and private collectors. Among these donors are the “Brunsviga Maschinenwerke” – the largest European manufacturer of calculators in the 20th century (“Brains of Steel”), the Brunswick dispensing chemist Bohlmann (1854–1944), who donated an important collection of historical pharmacist’s utensils, and the legendary sugar-beet farmer, globetrotter, researcher and art collector August Vasel (1848–1910) from Beierstedt who donated his collection of domestic utensils and costumes to the Museum from 1891 onwards.
