In the course of its history, the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum has been given numerous collections and archives from associations, federations, companies and private collectors. Among these donors are the “Brunsviga Maschinenwerke” – the largest European manufacturer of calculators in the 20th century (“Brains of Steel”), the Brunswick dispensing chemist Bohlmann (1854-1944), who donated an important collection of historical pharmacist’s utensils, and the legendary sugar-beet farmer, globetrotter, researcher and art collector August Vasel (1848-1910) from Beierstedt who donated his collection of domestic utensils and costumes to the Museum from 1891 onwards.
