800 Years of Dome

To mark the 800th anniversary of the Braunschweig Cathedral St. Blasii, the Braunschweigisches Ladesmuseum invites visitors to a major cultural history exhibition that offers a fresh perspective on the cathedral: The focus is not only on its architectural history, but also on its ever-changing significance for the people – from the Middle Ages to the present day.

In the historic rooms behind St. Aegidien, an impressive panorama unfolds across approximately 700 square meters: from the Welf memorial site to ducal representation and ideological appropriation, to the vibrant center of the community and the city's landmark. Original objects, atmospheric displays, and an interactive exhibition offer surprising perspectives for visitors of all ages.

A special highlight: For the first time, a digital 3D reconstruction brings the cathedral to life as it appeared around 1226. A free media guide complements the exhibition with a guided tour of the cathedral itself, allowing visitors to experience the building anew on-site.

The exhibition project is a collaborative effort with the Braunschweig Cathedral and the Ev.-luth. Landeskirche and other partners. They invite you to rediscover the significance of the cathedral – yesterday, today and for the future.
