Tones. Sounds. Objects.

Ulrich Eller x HAUM

Exhibition

Sound Meets Art

In this exhibition, Ulrich Eller explores the Herzog Anton Ulrich-Museum’s architectural, cultural and historic atmosphere. His sound installations change our perception of familiar places and open up unexpected aspects of the commonplace. Eller transforms special exhibition spaces, foyers and even the outside of the museum – at times acoustically, at times visually, always palpably.

Museum visitors who see and hear Eller’s artworks partake in a creative act that converts the museum space into an instrument. The museum becomes the artist’s soundbox, inviting us to move through our surroundings actively and consciously. The artist’s interventions present visitors browsing the museum collection with fresh perspectives and surprising associations. New experiences take place at the intersection of art, space, and individual exploration. Ulrich Eller’s sounds, tones and objects invite us to recontextualise ordinary phenomena.

Sound Is Art

Everyday sounds embedded and echoing throughout the museum context become an artistic experience, entering into a dialogue with artworks, visitors and architecture. Through Eller’s intervention, the stairwell becomes a Großer Sprachraum or large speaking area. The stairwell’s acoustics and reverberations transform words and sentences from the Gemäldegalerie’s wall texts into a new plane of sound. The space becomes a resonator, absorbing and modifying the sounds of speech. The Gemäldegalerie houses a “ladder to heaven”. Small speakers emit delicate sound forms.
