Memorabilia and personal documents

The objects in this part of the collection recall events that were of importance for the region as well as the lives of individuals. Among the personal contemporary testimonies – some of which are of a very private nature – are diaries and letters, but also a barrel for the storage of radioactive waste. This was taken along to demonstrations by campaign groups who protested against a disposal site for nuclear waste in the salt mine under the Asse hills. The collection also includes the rifle bullet that hit Duke Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand of Brunswick in his skull in 1806 during the battle of Auerstedt and which caused his blindness.
