Militaria and uniforms

The militaria in this part of the collection comprise above all uniforms, flags, weapons and medals. The civil uniforms of the Duchy of Brunswick (1815–1918) are of particular historical importance. These uniforms for ducal officials bear a visual resemblance to military uniforms, but are also clearly distinguished from the latter. They are an important source of information for understanding the militarised representational desideratum of the individual, small German states in the 19th century.
