St. Ulrici-Brüdern

Temporary exhibition venue of the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseums

The church of St. Ulrici-Brüdern offers space as a temporary exhibition venue for the family museum with the permanent exhibition “Bruneswic anno 1221”.

In historical, atmospheric, and geographical terms, the site of the former Franciscan monastery offers ideal points of connection to the exhibition's theme. The founding of the Franciscan Order coincides precisely with the beginning of the 13th century. By 1223 at the latest, the first members of the order were already present in Braunschweig; the first convent buildings, remnants of which can still be seen in the cloister, also date from the first half of the 13th century.

The building complex, situated on the border of the Neustadt and Sack districts, is within walking distance of Burgplatz and Braunschweig's Old Town. Thus, the exhibition can serve as an attractive starting point or focal point for exploring the medieval city of Braunschweig.

With the exhibition "Im Aufbruch. Reformation 1517–1617," the nave of the medieval church was partially converted into an exhibition space in 2017, the year of the Reformation anniversary. Art exhibitions have been held in the Brüdernkirche both before and after 2017, and in 2020, in renewed cooperation with the Braunschweigisches Landesmuseum, the exhibition "Social Design – How Do We Want to Live?" was presented, thus establishing the church space as a temporary exhibition venue. During the summer months, the adjoining café in the cloister offers visitors an inspiring atmosphere.
